Why Your Soul Still Feels Tired (Even After You Rest)
Have you ever gotten a full night’s sleep, taken a day off, and still felt exhausted?
Not just physically but deep down in your soul.
I know that feeling.
There have been seasons in my life when I thought if I could just catch up on my to-do list, I’d finally feel at peace. I believed that once everything was checked off, I would feel rested.
But every completed task seemed to be replaced with another one.
I wasn’t simply tired.
My soul was weary.
That’s when God gently reminded me of a powerful truth found in Psalm 23.
“He restores my soul.” — Psalm 23:3 (NKJV)
Notice who does the restoring.
David doesn’t say, “I restored myself.”
He doesn’t say a vacation restored him or that slowing down for a weekend fixed everything.
He points us to the Good Shepherd.
Only Jesus can restore what busyness has drained.
A Rested Body Isn’t Always a Restored Soul
Our culture often tells us that if we’re tired, we simply need more sleep, another vacation, or a better routine.
While those things are important, they don’t always address what’s happening beneath the surface.
Your body may need sleep.
But your soul needs the presence of God.
You can be productive and still feel empty.
You can be busy serving others and quietly neglect your own heart.
True restoration begins when we spend time with the One who knows exactly what our souls need.
Three Simple Ways to Begin Restoring Your Soul
1. Begin your day with God before your schedule.
Before checking your phone or opening your planner, spend a few quiet moments reading Scripture and praying. Even ten intentional minutes can change the direction of your day.
2. Carry God’s Word with you.
Choose one verse to meditate on throughout the day. When anxiety or stress begins to rise, return to God’s promises instead of your worries.
3. Make space for stillness.
Take a worship walk, sit outside with your Bible, or simply pause to thank God. Some of the sweetest moments of restoration happen when we slow down enough to hear His voice.
An Invitation for This Week
Take a moment today and ask yourself:
How is my soul?
Not your schedule.
Not your responsibilities.
Not your accomplishments.
Your soul.
Then pray this simple prayer:
“Lord, restore my soul. Help me stop striving and teach me to rest in Your presence. Lead me beside still waters and remind me that true peace is found in You. Amen.”
Friend, you don’t have to hustle for peace.
The Good Shepherd is already inviting you to walk with Him.
