What Happens When Moms Commit Just 7 Days to Flourishing

As moms, we carry so much — from managing homes and careers to nurturing our families and trying to hold onto a little space for ourselves. And if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably asked yourself, “Why does it feel like no matter what I do, I’m still exhausted?”

For years, I thought the answer was better organization. I tried color-coded planners, late-night catch-up sessions, and endless to-do lists. These tools did help, but here’s the truth: no matter how hard I worked to “manage my time,” I was still running on empty.

Being a time management coach for Christian career moms. And what I have personally discovered and help other moms see — is this: the problem wasn’t my calendar. The problem was that my soul was starving.

The truth is, what we really need isn’t just another productivity hack. What we need is to bring our time back under God’s guidance. That’s when true flourishing begins.

And here’s the good news: you don’t need to overhaul your whole life at once. Sometimes, just 7 days of intentional practices can be the spark that starts lasting change.

Step 1: Pause and Acknowledge the Real Need

The first step is simple — but it’s also the one we most often avoid. You have to acknowledge that your soul is tired, and that no amount of hustle will fix it.

For me, this moment came one day after I picked boys up from sport practices, dinner. cleaning up kitchen. I sat down, exhausted, and felt guilty because I hadn’t “done enough” that day. But in reality, what I needed wasn’t another hour of productivity — I needed rest in God’s presence.

Acknowledging that truth lifted a burden. And it can do the same for you.

Step 2: Choose One Anchoring Practice for 7 Days

Once you admit the need, the next step is to choose one simple practice you can commit to for 7 days.

It doesn’t have to be complicated. Maybe it’s journaling one verse each morning, praying during your commute, or listening to worship music before bed. The point isn’t perfection — it’s consistency.

One mom I walked alongside started making time to read the word in the mornings. She began to notice  her mornings were calmer, and she wasn’t snapping at her kids as much. That’s the power of a small, steady anchor.

Step 3: Reflect and Realign

After those 7 days, don’t just check the box and move on. Take time to reflect: What shifted in my energy, patience, or peace? Where did I notice God’s presence?

This reflection is what helps you carry the change forward.

When I committed to 7 days of reading Scripture before checking my email, I noticed my anxiety decreased. Reflecting on that reminded me that I was rushing into the world before resting in God. That reflection helped me make it a permanent rhythm.

Why 7 Days Can Change Everything

It’s amazing what God can do with just a week of intentional focus. You may not solve every problem in 7 days — but you will feel the spark of renewal. You’ll taste the peace that comes when you invite God into your daily rhythm.

And once you experience that, you’ll never want to go back to the old cycle of hustle and depletion.
