What Did God Actually Assign You?
The Small Stone of Forgotten Assignment
Sometimes the weight you feel isn’t from doing too much.
It’s from carrying things that were never yours to carry.
Not everything on your plate was placed there by God.
Some of it… you picked up.
Because it was needed.
Because you could do it.
Because you didn’t want to say no.
And slowly, your life filled with responsibilities that are good…
But not assigned.
When Good Becomes Heavy
Many Christian moms are not overwhelmed because they lack discipline.
They’re overwhelmed because they’ve said yes to too many things that feel right but aren’t aligned.
It looks like:
Helping because you care
Showing up because it’s needed
Taking on responsibility because you’re capable
None of those things are wrong.
But when everything becomes your responsibility, your life becomes heavy.
Not because you’re failing…
But because you’re carrying more than God intended.
Assignment vs Opportunity
There is a difference between something being good… and something being yours.
Just because something is:
- needed
- meaningful
- within your ability
Doesn’t mean it’s your assignment.
Assignment brings:
- clarity
- alignment
- peace (even when it’s stretching you)
Picked-up responsibilities bring:
- pressure
- urgency
- guilt
- confusion
And over time, that pressure turns into overwhelm.
A Truth That Changes Everything
Not everything you’re carrying
was placed in your hands by God.
Some things you picked up because you care.
But caring does not always mean calling.
That one shift can bring so much clarity.
What Scripture Reminds Us
1 Corinthians 7:17 says: “Each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them.”
God is intentional with what He assigns.
Which means:
You don’t have to carry everything.
A Simple Question to Ask This Week
Pause before you commit to anything new.
Or even before you continue carrying what you already have.
Ask yourself:
Is this truly mine to carry?
Is this aligned with my season?
Is this aligned with my capacity?
Is this aligned with what God has called me to?
That question can begin to bring clarity to what belongs and what doesn’t.
Not Sure What You’re Carrying?
If you’re feeling stretched thin and unsure what’s truly yours, I created something to help you get clarity.
The Flourishing in Your Calling Assessment (What Are You Carrying?) will help you:
- Identify where you’re overextended
- Recognize what may not be your assignment
- Gain clarity on what God is actually calling you to focus on
