Trusting God With What You Release
If you’ve been walking with me through the Small Stones Series, you may notice something different this week.
Not urgency.
Not pressure.
But a quiet invitation to rest.
And maybe a question rising in your heart:
If I slow down…
If I say no…
If I stop carrying so much…
Will everything fall apart?
It’s an honest question and one many Christian working moms carry silently.
When Letting Go Feels Risky
Most of us don’t struggle with effort.
We struggle with trust.
We’ve learned to manage.
To juggle.
To hold everything together.
So when God invites us to slow down or release something, it can feel uncomfortable even irresponsible.
Rest feels risky.
Margin feels selfish.
Letting go feels like failure.
But God is not asking you to strive harder.
He’s inviting you to trust deeper.
Rest Is Not Quitting, It’s Dwelling
Psalm 91 has anchored this entire series, and as we close, verse one gently reminds us where peace actually comes from:
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” — Psalm 91:1
Not strive.
Not hustle.
Not prove anything.
Rest.
Notice the word dwells.
Dwelling means staying close.
Remaining.
Abiding.
God’s covering is not activated by exhaustion it’s experienced through closeness.
A Truth I Had to Learn Personally
There was a season when rest felt uncomfortable for me.
Even when I slowed down physically, my mind kept racing thinking about what wasn’t finished, what still needed my attention, what I might be dropping.
I worried that if I stopped pushing, something would be missed.
But God gently showed me something freeing:
I was stumbling over, and carrying stones He never asked me to hold.
And when I finally started laying some of them down, nothing collapsed.
My life didn’t fall apart.
My calling didn’t disappear.
My family didn’t suffer.
Instead, peace returned.
Because God was covering what I released.
God’s Covering Is Not Performance-Based
One of the most freeing truths we can hold onto is this:
God’s protection is not dependent on how much you do.
His presence doesn’t increase when you’re exhausted.
And it doesn’t disappear when you rest.
Psalm 91 reminds us that God covers us in daily life
even when tasks are unfinished,
even when schedules aren’t perfect,
even when we choose rest.
You are still resting in the shadow of the Almighty.
Learning to Rest Without Guilt
If rest has felt hard for you, try this gentle shift:
Instead of asking, “What else should I be doing?”
Ask, “Lord, what are You asking me to trust You with today?”
Maybe it’s an unfinished task.
A responsibility that isn’t yours.
A season that feels uncertain.
Rest happens when we stop striving to control outcomes and start trusting God with them.
You Don’t Have to Carry Every Stone
As we close this series, I want to remind you:
You were never meant to carry every small stone.
The rushing.
The overwhelm.
The mental load.
The guilt.
The overcommitment.
God sees every one of them.
And He’s not disappointed in you for carrying them
He’s inviting you to lay them down.
One at a time.
God’s Got You
Take a deep breath, mama.
You don’t have to prove anything.
You don’t have to hold it all together.
You don’t have to carry every stone.
What you release…
God covers.
And that is enough.
Continue Walking Gently
If this series has spoken to your heart, I invite you to continue walking through it at your own pace.
