The Small Stone of Energy Leaks

Why You Feel Drained Even When Your Schedule Isn’t Full

Sometimes the problem isn’t your schedule.

You’ve created more margin.

You’ve said no to a few things.

Your calendar looks a little lighter than it used to.

And yet… you still feel tired.

Not physically exhausted.

But emotionally and mentally drained.

That’s often a sign of something many Christian moms don’t recognize: Energy leaks.

What Are Energy Leaks?

Energy leaks happen when your emotional and mental energy is constantly being pulled in directions that were never meant to carry your full attention.

It can look like:

Replaying conversations long after they happen.

Carrying someone else’s stress as if it were your own.

Feeling responsible for how everyone around you feels.

Trying to fix situations that were never yours to solve.

Your schedule may not be packed.

But your mind and heart are still working overtime.

And that kind of weight quietly drains your strength.

When Caring Turns Into Carrying

Many Christian moms have compassionate hearts.

We want to help.

We want to support.

We want to show up for people we love.

But sometimes compassion slowly turns into absorption.

Instead of caring for people, we begin carrying their emotional weight.

And when that happens, even a peaceful day can feel exhausting.

Because your energy is being pulled in invisible directions.

A Lesson I Had to Learn

There was a time when I believed being loving meant absorbing everything.

If someone was upset, I carried it.

If someone was disappointed, I replayed it in my mind.

If someone misunderstood me, I tried to fix the situation over and over again.

Eventually I realized something important.

Compassion does not require absorption.

You can care deeply about people without carrying everything they feel.

What Jesus Reminds Us

Matthew 11:28 says: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Sometimes the burdens we feel are not things God asked us to carry.

Learning to release what isn’t ours is part of protecting the peace God wants for us.

A Gentle Practice for This Week

Pay attention to your energy this week.

After certain conversations…

After certain situations…

After certain interactions…

Notice where your energy drops.

Then pause and ask yourself:

Is this mine to carry?

Or am I absorbing something that was never meant to be my responsibility?

That small question can help you identify where energy leaks are quietly draining your strength.
