Stop Living in Survival Mode

The other day, I was thinking about a season of life when my boys were younger.

My days felt full from the moment my feet hit the floor.

There were lunches to pack, schedules to manage, work responsibilities, household tasks, and a never-ending list of things that needed my attention.

And if I’m honest, I spent many days telling myself:

“I just need to get through this week.”

Then it became:

“I just need to get through this month.”

And before I knew it, I was living in a cycle of simply getting through life instead of truly living it.

Maybe you’ve been there too.

You’re showing up.

Taking care of everyone.

Getting things done.

But deep down, you’re exhausted.

Not because you aren’t capable.

Not because you aren’t organized.

But because you’ve been carrying more than God ever intended you to carry.

One scripture completely changed my perspective on this.

Isaiah 30:15 says:

“In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.”

When I first read those words, I realized something.

God never said my strength would come from doing more.

He never said peace would come after everything was finished.

He said strength would come through returning, resting, and trusting Him.

What a different picture than the one so many of us are living.

Today, many Christian moms are stuck in survival mode.

We rush.

We strive.

We carry responsibilities for our families, careers, homes, and ministries.

Yet we rarely stop long enough to ask:

“Am I living the way God intended?”

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed lately, here are a few signs you may be living in survival mode:

  • You feel guilty when you rest.
  • You’re constantly rushing.
  • You rarely have margin in your schedule.
  • You feel emotionally exhausted.
  • God often gets what’s left of your time and energy.

Friend, there is another way.

Not a perfect life.

Not a stress-free life.

But a life rooted in God’s peace.

This week, choose one small rhythm.

Maybe it’s five quiet minutes with God before you check your phone.

Maybe it’s saying no to one unnecessary commitment.

Maybe it’s taking a walk and talking with God.

Small rhythms matter.

Because lasting transformation rarely happens all at once.

It happens one faithful step at a time.
