Abiding In The Vine

Greetings Flourishing Woman!

John 15:5 ~ “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him, bears much fruit; for without me you can do nothing.” Abiding in Christ is learning how to continually depend on Him. When we become born again we become connected to the vine. We become  in union with Christ. I have really come to realize that I can be connected but not truly abiding. If we are to abide we MUST remain in Him. We, the branches have no source of life or nourishment if we don't continually abide in the vine.

Striving to obey His commands is a part of abiding in Christ Jesus. The term abide means to accept or act in accordance to/with. This means we must let Him have full control over our thoughts, actions, and every day activities. It's a complete surrender!! In Matthew 11:29-30 Jesus said, to take His yoke upon us and learn from Him. Abiding in Him must be our top priority. When we begin to abide, we show that we are His disciples. We then begin to bear plentiful fruit. This is how the Father will be glorified through our lives. He knows how to get the shears and start clipping off the things in our lives that are stunting our growth, and causes us to be unfruitful and not  flourish. This is part of the pruning process. There are amazing  benefits in abiding  in the vine.

Benefits of Abiding in Christ

  • Answered  Prayers - John 15:7 ~ “If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” Our every prayer request will not be answered based on our own desire, but according to His will. When we are abiding in Christ, we are praying His word and His will over our life.
  • Love - When we are abiding in Christ, we are able to genuinely love the people around us, just as Christ loves us.
  • Joy- His joy will begin to become more deeply rooted in us. It will begin to reach our core, allowing us to have joy through Him regardless of circumstance. This is a true level of joy & happiness that the Lord desires for all his children to have. The fullness of His joy will remain in us. In His presence is the fullness of joy. Psalms 16:11
  • Friendship- The Lord wants to be our everything, including our friend. We all have an open invitation to be a friend of the Almighty God. Wow Wow, Wow!!! Guest what?? Jesus said that He would share things that He hears from the father with His friends!!!  Now that’s something that makes me want to leap with joy and excitement.

Even though we may be connected but let’s strive to abide. This is our life line and this is the only way that we can be properly nourished to flourish!!
