7 Signs You’re Feeling Burn Out (And How to Turn Things Around)

We are blessed to be mothers!!! Being high achievers striving to harmonize our career, family, and personal life, it’s easy to overlook the warning signs of burnout. But ignoring these signs can lead to emotional exhaustion, strained relationships, and even spiritual dryness. The good news is that God offers us peace, strength, and rest when we lean on Him. By recognizing the signs of burnout and taking action, you can experience renewal and joy in your life.

What is Burnout?

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged stress. It happens when we try to meet constant demands without proper rest and renewal. God, however, did not design us to live in constant exhaustion. Instead, He calls us to rest in His presence and trust in His strength.

7 Signs You’re Burning Out

You Feel Constantly Tired, Even After Rest
Physical exhaustion becomes your baseline, and no amount of sleep seems to help.
Psalm 62:1-2 reminds us: “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”

You’re Emotionally Overwhelmed
Simple tasks feel monumental, and you find yourself more irritable, anxious, or tearful than usual.
Turn to 1 Peter 5:7“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” Let God carry your burdens.

Your Passion is Fading
The things you once loved—whether at work, with family, or in your faith—start to feel like obligations instead of joys.
Psalms 51:12 reassures us: Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

You’re Struggling to Focus
Concentrating becomes a challenge, and even small decisions feel overwhelming.
Trust in Proverbs 3:5-6“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

You’re Neglecting Yourself
Healthy habits like eating well, exercising, or spending time with God fall to the wayside.
Remember Psalm 23:2-3“He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.”

You’re Feeling Disconnected from Loved Ones
Burnout often strains relationships as emotional exhaustion leaves little room for connection.
Ephesians 4:2-3 offers comfort: "2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace."

You’re Experiencing Physical Symptoms
Burnout manifests in headaches, muscle tension, insomnia, or frequent illness.
Look to 3 John 2 "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth".

How to Turn Things Around

1. Acknowledge the Problem

The first step to healing is recognizing that you’re struggling. Take a moment to reflect on these signs and ask God to reveal the areas where you’ve been running on empty.
Pray: “Lord, help me identify the areas of my life where I need renewal and rest.”

2. Recenter Your Focus on God

Spend time in prayer and meditation, even if it’s just 15-30 minutes a day. Reflect on Psalm 62:1-2 and remind yourself that true rest comes from God.

3. Set Healthy Boundaries

Say no to tasks that don’t align with your priorities. Remember, you can’t do everything. Delegate tasks and trust God’s plan. Reflect on Numbers 11:17 They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it all.

4. Prioritize Rest and Renewal

Schedule time for activities that refresh your soul, whether it’s journaling, walking, or spending time in God’s Word. Remember Matthew 11:28-30“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

5. Reconnect with Loved Ones

Take small steps to rebuild relationships. Plan a family meal, a conversation with your spouse, or playtime with your kids. Healthy relationships nourish your spirit.

6. Practice Gratitude

Reflect on the blessings in your life. Gratitude shifts your focus from what’s draining you to what God is doing in your life. Write down three things you’re thankful for each day. 1 Thessalonians 5:18: "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

7. Seek Support

You don’t have to do this alone. Reach out to a trusted friend, mentor, or coach for encouragement and accountability. Join a community of moms who share similar struggles and victories.

Encouragement for the Journey

Burnout isn’t the end of the story. With God’s help, you can take small, intentional steps toward healing and renewal. Remember Philippians 4:13“I can do all things through him who gives me strength.” God’s strength will sustain you in every challenge.
