How to Create a God-Centered Routine That Lasts
Moms, have you ever started a new routine with good intentions—only to give up after a week? I know I have. So many times I have tried waking up earlier, squeezing in more, and pushing harder, thinking that hustle would help me “get it all together.”
But instead of flourishing, I ended up exhausted. Spiritually, I felt really empty—like I was doing everything for everyone else but not letting God pour back into me.
Well, the shift happened when I realized: routines don’t last when they’re built on hustle. They last when they’re built on Jesus Christ!
Here are three steps that helped me—and I believe they can help you too.
Step 1: Start With God’s Presence
When I finally began starting my day with God—even just a quick prayer and scripture reading before emails—a lot of things shifted.
Matthew 6:33 reminds us:
“Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Your routine doesn’t need to begin with hustle—it needs to begin with His Presence.
Step 2: Anchor in Purpose, Not Pressure
For years, my routines were built around what I thought I should do. Notice, I said what I thought I should do. But when I began asking, “What has God actually called me to today?” my routines felt lighter.
Anchoring your habits in God’s purpose and will keeps them from being burdens and turns them into blessings.
Step 3: Keep It Simple and Repeatable
I used to overthink and overcomplicate everything—meal plans, schedules, Bible studies. But I’ve learned that simple rhythms last.
One verse at lunch. A moment of gratitude at night. A few minutes of Sabbath rest.
John 15:5 says:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.”
Consistency—not perfection—is what brings fruit.
One Small Step for You
This week, before you grab your planner or your phone, pause and pray. That small choice was the beginning of lasting change for me—and it can be for you too.
